While developing websites, one critical element we should always consider is the Human-computer interaction(HCI) of the web design. How a website looks, navigation within the system and how it is used are all that affects the HCI of a website. In that way, a factor that contributes to a better HCI is the choice of colors used on the website.
The choice of colors in a website not just depends on the brand theme or the favorite color of the website owner, the right way of choosing the color depends on the usage frequency, types of users and the nature of business.
Take for instance a website for a cake shop, it is a fancy food which is predominantly used during a celebration or when you crave to have one, so the expectation of the user will have to be appealing to eat and look pretty in which case the website should be reducing the usage of non appealing colors like black or brown for a cake shop. May be light colors like pink, light blue, peach or even white will suit in such cases. Since there is a celebration part in it, maybe a combination of shot colors would work, but it all depends on how it looks in the perspective of the user in terms of the nature of your business. Peoples brain interprets colors faster than words, hence it affects the first impression of the user on understanding the type of business which directly impacts how far they remember your website next time they want to purchase a cake.
If a website is developed for users(e.g: employees) who are going to use the website for a prolonged purpose, then we also need to think about the health concerns of the eyes when choosing the right color of the website. Colors affect our eyes and mood as well. Red-Orange color gives a hot-warm feeling and Green-Blue gives a completely opposite feeling of cool-cooler feeling. As you may have already guessed, the reasonable color of choice, in this case, would be the latter one.
Though we can develop systems with high technologies, features and attractive images, it is all worth only if the users are comfortable to use the system as required. Therefore it is a necessity to ensure that the UI color choice of the website matches the nature of the business and its functionality which creates value to the business and the users.
